German History Society Annual Conference

Keynote speakers: Celia Applegate, Andreas Gestrich, Jürgen Kocka and Lyndal Roper

16 and 17 September 2010, University of Manchester

Call for panel proposal

Historians of Germany in the UK, Ireland, North America, Germany, Europe and the rest of the world have long been aware of German History, the journal published by the German History Society in the UK and Ireland. For the first time in its history, the German History Society, with the generous support of the German Historical Institute London, is organising its regular Annual Conference via a call for panel proposals.

The Society invites historians of Germany from all parts of the world to submit panel proposals on what they regard as cutting-edge research topics in German history ranging from the middle ages to contemporary Germany. Panels will last for 90 minutes and should have three speakers and a chair. Papers should be no longer than 20 minutes.

Deadline for submission of proposals: 20 February 2010.

The Society’s Committee will select proposals and inform applicants during March 2010. Postgraduate students are explicitly encouraged to participate in panels or to submit their own panel proposals.

Please note that panelists will have to bear the costs of travel and accommodation themselves. Some bursaries will be available for postgraduate students and colleagues who do not have access to travel funds. Plenty of moderately priced accommodation is available in the immediate vicinity of the conference venue. There will be a modest conference fee of £30 (waged) and £10 (unwaged) for delegates who are not members of the German History Society. The conference is free for members of the German History Society.

For details on membership of the German History Society, visit the membership page; for details of the German Historical Institute London, visit http://www.ghil.ac.uk/.

One copy of the panel proposal (including names of speakers, titles of their papers, brief abstracts and overall description of the panel; no longer than 250 words please) should be sent in electronic format to the Secretary of the German History Society, Dr Annika Mombauer, at the following address: a.mombauer@open.ac.uk.
