The German History Society is proud to announce the inaugural winner of our Creative Research Context 2024!
Congratulations to Mischa Bogue from Our Lady’s Secondary School, Castleblayney, Co.Monaghan whose project entitled ‘Cultural Patronage and Botanical Gardens: The Commissioning of the Eichstätt Garden Book during Early Modern Europe’ was highly commended by the awarding committee.
Former GHS Outreach Officer Dr Jeff Bowersox (UCL) commented:
Mischa’s poster project not only drew inspiration from our video on the Eichstätt garden book, but did sound further research to explore the broader context and the particular significance of the garden and the book. Mischa’s research material and conclusions were presented very clearly and in an engaging manner. We were particularly impressed by the illustrations, truly an appropriate homage to the book itself!
The project was based on Series 1 Episode 1 of ‘Glimpses of German History’ on the elaborately illustrated botanical book, the Hortus Eystettensis (1613), discussed by Prof. Ulinka Rublack which can be viewed here
Mischa has been awarded £250 for her winning entry. Her school, Our Lady’s Secondary was also awarded £250 for them to purchase materials to support history teaching.
Keep an eye out for next year’s competition – details coming soon…
